The weeks are going very fast as we approach the end of the school year. Today Kinder and Year 1/2 presented an amazing assembly which was a real showcase of the wonder learning happening in the Infants in all the Key Learning Areas. The assembly was very entertaining and the audience learnt all about the Gospels, The Acts of The Apostles, The Book of Letters and the Revelations. We were treated to some Bush Poetry, Maths, singing and dancing, HSIE and why we need maps and a parade of their artistic talents. It is amazing to see how well all our Infants students are reading. Well done students, Penny Lucas, Jack Niddrie, Rebecca Cooper, Jo Birks and Fiona Bassingthwaighte. A special thank you to all our wonderful parents and grandparents for coming!
This past week the children have been very fortunate to have been on several excursions. The Year 3-6 students went to Canberra again this week to visit our sister school, Holy Trinity at Curtin. The children experienced a showcase of inquiry learning with an Expo and were provided lunch by the host school. They all had a fantastic time.
The Trinity Trivia night is fast approaching. It is being held on Saturday, November 16 at the Mechanics Institute. We need all our families to support this wonderful fundraising event. The Trinity Trivia nights are always very entertaining and a lot of fun! So start getting your tables together to help make this event a success. Presently, we are seeking ideas for sponsorship and or/prizes. If you know of someone in the community who is involved e.g. with a big sporting club or team or a contact for an incentive to raise money through the donation of an item or a dinner etc., please contact the front office at Trinity. We need major auction items as well as items to raffle. We look forward to hearing from you soon!
There are some very important dates coming up so please ensure you have them marked on the calendar.
On Monday November 25, Mr George Telford, Senior Consultant and Australian Director for Challenging Learning, will be visiting and working in classrooms at Trinity. George came and spent a day with teachers and students earlier in the year. He is presenting a 1 hour talk at St Joseph’s Boorowa, on Monday November 25 at 7:30pm. His presentation is about growth mindsets, fixed mindsets, learning language, praise, feedback, challenge, homework and more. (Please refer to the attached flyer for more detailed information). This is a wonderful opportunity for parents and carers to learn how you can support your children to become great learners. If we get enough parents interested we could take a bus or car pool. A note will be sent home closer to the event. We do hope that you can join us.
The Year 6 Graduation will be held on Friday 13th December beginning at 6pm here at Trinity school. This promises to be a very memorable night for our Year 6 students and one I am sure they are looking forward to. Year 5 parents will receive a note explaining what will be happening on the night and further details will come home closer to the night.
Tuesday 17th December is our annual Presentation Night. The night will begin at 6:30pm with the usual awards and dances performed by all our students. BYO Supper and chairs/rug to sit on. Please save the dates!
Don’t forget next Friday is a crazy hair day for all students to raise funds for the Australian Alopecia Areata Foundation and we have a working bee at Trinity on Sunday November 24 at 10am. Information will be coming home about the working bee shortly!
Have a lovely weekend!
God Bless,
Marylou Gorham
Year 3-6 Excursion to Canberra
Last Friday children from Years 3-6 along with Miss Wade, Miss O’Brien and Mrs Burns travelled to Canberra for their annual excursion. It was a great day packed full of exciting activities and learning experiences. The activities included;
- The Dinosaur Museum
- The Botanic Gardens
- The Recycling Hub
- The National Library
- A treat at MacDonald’s on the way home
All children are to be commended on their impeccable behaviour and participation throughout the excursion. The Trinity school community should be very proud of our students.
Special thanks to our bus driver for the day, Mr Rob Stevenson, for his driving expertise and for sharing the day with us.
Student’s Comments
Aidan Summerfield – The excursion was fun and interesting. My favourite part was the National Library and the Dinosaur Museum.
Tom Bassingthwaighte – The excursion was fabulous, fun, cool and interesting. I learnt a lot of new things like birds are dinosaurs – so when you have a magpie in you garden, you actually have a dinosaur in your garden! My favourite part was the Dinosaur Museum.
Zoe Lenehan – The excursion was epic!!! My favourite part was the Recycling Hub and the Dinosaur Museum. I learnt to recycle more and I learnt what should be recycled in our bins at home.
Emerson Mann-Rea – I thought the excursion was great fun. I learnt that Australia only had 24 dinosaurs wander around the country. One was the Crocodillian. My favourite part was the Dinosaur Museum.
Bea Lucas – I thought the excursion was awesome. I learnt that birds are dinosaurs. My favourite part was the Dinosaur Museum. The man who took us on tour was really funny.
Talia McKay – I thought that the excursion was very educational. I learnt that anything with scales, except for lizards and snakes, are dinosaurs. I also learnt at the Recycling Hub that metal does not disintegrate. My favourite part was the Dinosaur Museum and the Recycling Hub.
Melanie Beal – I thought the excursion was lots of fun. My favourite place was the National Library because there were lots of cool books.
Poppy Lucas – I thought the excursion was great. I learnt that a chicken is a dinosaur and my favourite part was the Dinosaur Museum.
Tilly Bowman – I thought the excursion fantastic. I learnt lots of interesting things like how our rubbish is sorted when it gets to the Recycling Hub and how important it is to recycle properly.
Molly Manwaring – One thing I learnt from the excursion was that chickens and birds are actually dinosaurs. I liked the Botanic Gardens and the Dinosaur Museum.
Christian Johnson – I thought the excursion was marvellous because we got to learn new things and we had lots of fun doing it.
Melbourne Cup Snail Races
On Tuesday, Trinity celebrated the Melbourne Cup by holding their annual snail races. Some snails were lovingly named and snuggled and others were barracked from afar!! We had an infants champion - Somer Oldfield & a primary champion - Tom Bassingthwaighte. They were presented with beautiful mementos so they can remember their special victory forever...
Visit to Holy Trinity – Our Sister School in Curtin
Last Wednesday Years 3-6 travelled to Canberra along with Miss Wade, Mr Niddrie and Mrs Burns to visit our sister school – Holy Trinity – in Curtin (Canberra).
Upon arrival all teachers and students were treated to a wonderful ‘Subway’ lunch and had a little look around the school which was amazing. While at Holy Trinity Years 3-6 were treated to a Global Awareness Performance followed by an expedition of the work from Holy Trinity students along the lines of Inquiry investigations. These were excellent and was a great opportunity for Trinity students to interact with other students of their own age and participate in their learning with them.
We are again very thankful to our bus driver, Mr Stevenson, for getting us there safely and home in time for bus pick-up at school.
Student’s Comments
Amber McKay – Students from Holy Trinity choreographed and performed their own dance to the theme of Global Awareness. I thought the dance was very moving and I found the expedition realistic because I felt I was ‘in’ the learning zone.
Riley Jackson – I thought the visit to Holy Trinity was great. I found the activities were fun and I enjoyed doing them with the kids.
Samantha Beal – I found the expedition was a great experience. The activities were exciting. My favourite part was when we had to grab a bucket, fill it up and walk the shoes of the poor people in Africa who have to carry water long distances each day.
Chaz Cooper – I thought the kids at Holy Trinity had some really smart work which they shared with us. I found it all interesting but the most interesting was the part where they taught us about the kids in Africa and how hard they work to get water – things we sometimes take for granted.
Jaslyn Killick – I enjoyed going to Holy Trinity. My favourite part was when we got to do the activities because I learnt a lot. I loved the performance and the singing at the end.
Grace Metcalfe – I liked the performance and I loved meeting new people. I really liked the end of the performance when they did the dance – this was fantastic.
Thomas Edwards – I really liked our visit to Holy Trinity. I liked the video clips they showed about other countries and I enjoyed learning different things from the kids presentations.

Road Safety
Road Safety is always revised with our children in school PDHPE lessons and outside school with our parents and carers. Thank you to all teachers, parents and carers for being positive role models for our children to keep them safe on our roads.
Here are a few things you can do to help keep your children and others safer during drop-off and pick-up times during the school week:
Driving and parking near schools
The beginning and end of the school day are busy times for pedestrians and vehicles outside schools. Parking signs are planned with your child's safety in mind.
It is helpful for everyone if you park safely, even if you have to walk further to the school gate. This is a good time to model positive road safety behaviour and physical activity for your child.
Slow down near any crossings around the school. At a supervised crossing, follow the directions of the school crossing supervisor. Crossing supervisors manage traffic to help primary school children use the crossings on roads near and outside of schools.
Drop your child off and pick them up on the school side of the road. Calling out to them from across the road is dangerous – they may run to you without checking for traffic. This will help keep all children as safe as possible during the busiest times of the school day.
You should always:
- park legally
- avoid dangerous manoeuvers such as U-turns and three-point turns
- give way to pedestrians, particularly when entering or exiting driveways
- avoid using the school car park or driveway
- avoid parking in the school bus bay
- make sure your child uses the Safety Door (rear kerb-side door) to get in and out of the car.
Dangerous driving behaviour around schools puts children at risk.
Model safe and considerate behaviour for your child – they will learn from you.

Remembrance Day
Remembrance Day falls on the 11th of November each year. On the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month, a minutes’ silence is observed and dedicated to those soldiers who died fighting to protect the nation.
In Australia and other allied countries, including New Zealand, Canada and the United States, 11 November became known as Armistice Day – a day to remember those who died in World War One. The day continues to be commemorated in allied countries.
After World War Two, the Australian Government agreed to the United Kingdom’s proposal that Armistice Day be renamed Remembrance Day to commemorate those who were killed in both World Wars. Today the loss of Australian lives from all wars and conflicts is commemorated on Remembrance Day.
We will remember them. Lest we forget.
